BARCELONA, Fantasista - Marca reported, as against Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday (20/4/2010), Barcelona travel a shorter distance than when the first leg against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final.
As against Arsenal, Barcelona reached the distance covered 113.91 km. However, when against Inter, they just covered 104.11 km.
According to Marca, it was related to the limited movement of five Barcelona players due to Inter tight pressing. They are Dani Alves, who ran 1.11 km less than that when the duel versus Arsenal, Sergi Busquets (-1.64), Xavi Hernandez (-1.24), Pedro (-1.36), and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (-1.87). Just for the record, the game against Arsenal, Ibrahimovic played for 76 minutes and 61 minutes when against Inter.
On the other hand, Marca said this quality degradation against Inter was caused by long travel as far as about 1000 kilometers from Barcelona to Milan. Barcelona forced to do this because of the ban on flying in most parts of Europe. This ban was made because of the volcanic ash from the mountain that erupted in Iceland.
This quality degradation led to the defeat of 1-3. Although the second leg match next week in Barcelona, a two goals deficit is not a problem that can be easily accomplished, even by teams who finish the year in 2009 with six titles.
